About the Book:When I first received this book I was fascinated by nicely illustrated sample source codes and succinctness which is unlike other encyclopedia-sized COM books with mind-numbing wordy content with little source codes. After reading few chapters I could easily see that this book targets for both beginners and intermediates.About the Delivery:This book came all the way from California and crossed the pacific ocean to reach my doorstep and not a single page is smudged/ripped or stained. What makes me surprised is that this book was printed almost 14~17 yrs ago and it's as good as new. Thanks to amazon re-seller WCMshop for selling me this book.

Of all the books on COM they either go right into using the library functions with no explination behind them or they get over techincal. This book is the best bet for someone looking to truly learn COM and the methods behind the libraries. I'd recomend this book highly.

A very easy and useful book. The book doesn't use complex C++ or compiler specific features or MFC. You need to know only about classes and a little knowledge of Win32 programming. It also explains the COM concept and how it can be used for operating systems other than Windows. I liked chapter where the author showed in few steps how to create a remote COM object running on different machine using DCOM. This book is essential if you want to learn COM

This book is pretty old, but it is still one of the best books on COM available. The other book I would recommend you buy with this one is Developer's Workshop to COM and ATL 3.0.

The book is a good one for a beginner in COM. The examples and the descriptions provided are good.What makes reading slightly difficult, is the Grammatical mistakes in various sentences. This requires an effort by the user to rephrase and understand and then read ahead.A little more effort than usual that is required in reading a book.
